When is the first day of school for the 2008-2009 school year?

The first day of school is Monday, August 18, 2008, for sixth graders only. Seventh and eighth graders will begin on Tuesday, August 19, 2008.  All students must report on August 20, 2008.

 

When is registration?  What documents do I need to bring to registration?

Registration is on August 11th (6th graders only), 12th (7th graders), & 13th (8th graders), 2008, from 8:00-11:30am and 1:00-3:00 pm.  Students may also register on Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 8:30-11:30am.  Parents must register their students.  It is not necessary for students to attend registration.  When registering returning students, bring an updated copy of immunization records.  When registering new students to the district, you must bring a birth certificate, immunization records, prior school transcripts and proof of residency.

 

What are the school day hours?

The school day begins at 7:20am and ends at 2:35pm.  Doors are locked before school until the first bell at 7:10 am.  Students that eat breakfast are allowed into the building at 7:00a.m.  After school students may stay for tutoring and extracurricular activities, but once they leave, they may not go back inside the building.

What are the uniform requirements?

Students at Smiley adhere to a strict dress code.  Students may wear collared shirts in blue (any shade), white, gray or black.  Appropriate pants include black or khaki colored bottoms.  Students may also wear school approved Smiley logo t-shirts, sweatshirts, and polo shirts (in the above mentioned colors).  Students may wear dress shoes or tennis shoes, no sandals, Crocs or Keens.

 

When is the t-shirt and polo shirt sale?

School approved t-shirts and polo shirts with the Smiley logo will be sold at the ice cream social (August 14, 2008) and at registration (August 9th, 11th, 12th, & 13th, 2008).   Additional times may be scheduled throughout the year and may be on sale at some school events.

 

Will my child receive bus transportation?

Bus transportation is available to Smiley students who live in the IBO Magnet attendance area and reside over 2 ½ miles away from the school.

 

Is hot lunch available to my child?

Yes, hot lunch is available for every child at Smiley at a cost of $1.65.  For those who qualify, reduced and free lunch is also available.  Breakfast is served every morning at 7:00am and is free of charge.

 

When are Collaborative School Committee (CSC) and Parent Teacher/Student Association (PTSA) meetings held?

In general, CSC and PTSA meeting are held on the 2nd  Tuesday of the month at 5pm and 6pm respectively. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.  Below are the dates for the first meetings.  Additional meetings are listed on the school website.
