P.R.I.D.E…Participation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Excellence!
March 10 , 2010
Dear Smiley Families:
How can it be March already? This school year has gone by far too quickly. It is hard to believe that we are two thirds of the way through!
Enclosed in this envelope, you’ll find your student’s second trimester report card. We hope you are proud of your student’s academic accomplishments for this time period. Your support at home is absolutely critical, and we appreciate what you do to propel our kids toward success.
We are anticipating many exciting events from now until the end of the school year: the CSAP Banana Split Social; Smiley Spirit Week; Literacy, Math, and Science Nights; Culture Fair; Smiley Family Movie Nights…and many more! We’ll get dates to you for all of these happenings very soon, and will make sure that all information is posted on our website.
We have had a very successful first week of CSAP testing. Thanks for making sure your student is here for these important testing days. We will wrap up this year’s testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. We have the highest of hopes for our students’ results. Our students achieved excellent attendance and punctuality rates on test days. Those students who arrived on time and ready to test—and who have completed all testing sessions—will enjoy our CSAP Banana Split Social on Friday afternoon in celebration of our successful CSAP experience.
We have entered the second phase of the DPS School of Choice rounds. We have room to grow and would love to welcome new students to the Smiley family. If you know of middle school students and families that are interested in attending Smiley, please send them our way. Prospective families can also find information about registration and shadowing on our website: www.smileymiddleschool.com.
In addition to your student’s report card, you will find included in this packet some important information regarding attendance and safety at Smiley. Please pay special attention to these pamphlets, and be in touch with us with any questions you have.
Please note that students have an 11:35 a.m. early release on Friday, March 26th. It’s important that students have plans for transportation immediately following the early release. Buses will be running that day for students who take advantage of district transportation.
We appreciate your ongoing support and participation in your student’s academic and behavioral success, and we look very much forward to seeing you at our many celebratory and informational events this spring.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Shiverdecker
